I think that the main character in the play is Mama. She seems to represent all the dreams of the family...including those of her deceased husband.

I think that the main character of the play is Walter. The whole play is a process of replacing the former head of the family, Walter's father, with a new head of the family, Walter. At the end of the play through much hardship and difficulty Walter finally is given the responsibility (money) by Mama.

I agree with Amy that Mama is the main character, but at times I felt that, even though he wasn't actually seen in the story, Big Walter was the main character. The majority of the plot revolves around the check Mama receives, which is from Big Walter. Although he isn't seen, he plays a very large part in the events of the play.

I also think that Mama is the main character because the main plot points hinge on her throughout the entire play. The hopes of both Beneatha and Walter rest on what Mama decides to do with the check, and she is the driving force behind the actions that follow Walter's money being stolen. It seems that every action that takes place somehow has Mama involved in one way or another.

I also think that the main character of the play is Mama. She has to deal with the problems of all the characters. Witthout her check, the main action of the play would not have even been able to take place.

I agree that the main character of the play is Mama. She knows all the members of the family very well and cares for all of them and at the end when Walter is talking to Linder she makes sure Travis stays there and listens to what Walter has to say so Walter can do the right thing and teach Travis a lesson. I also think that Mama is the main character because she is the last character to appear on stage.

I think that, while Walter seems to be the focus at times, Mama is the main character. She is kind of like the glue that holds everyone's dreams and hopes together. She is always doing her best to make sure everyone is getting along.

I think that Walter is the main character of the play. This is because Walter makes the most dynamic change and does so to better his family.

I think that Walter is the main character. I think the main focus of the play is Walter's growth as an individual. Walter can be seen as representative of the black race as a whole in the late 1900's, from his first tentative trials and failures, to his eventual confrontation with those who would deny him equality.
