Do you think that Donald is right when he said that Pete doesn't have any purpose in life? Does this statement have any connection with Pete's attempts to kill his brother?

I think that Donald is wrong is saying that Pete doesn't have any purpose in life. Perhaps Donald does not see the purpose, but everyone has a purpose in life. Pete may not even realize his purpose, or his purpose might be to acquire new cars, for whatever reason.
All people, whether they realize it or not, have a purpose in life. The question is do they fulfill it? I do not believe that one can fulfill his or her purpose without knowing what that purpose is. Perhaps individuals that are unsure of their purpose in life, like Pete, are envious and malignant towards those people who are sure of their life's purpose. I think that this resentment may play a pivotal role in Pete's attempts to kill Donald.
Who is the rich brother?
I don't think Donald had any right to say that Pete didn't have purpose. No one but yourself has the right to decide what you do with your life. I think the brothers were on two tracks and they valued things differently.
I think that the story shows that Pete's purpose in life is misguided more that the implication that Donald has no purpose. Donald has a kind heart and wants to make others happy, while Pete's purpose is only to make money and to serve himself. When Pete says Donald has no purpose, perhaps he should look in the mirror.
I agree with the others that Donald was wrong in saying that Pete didn't have a purpose. It is very clear to readers that Pete feels his purpose is to help Donald when he can, which he does. Donald just doesn't see that that is Pete's purpose.
