Plot hole

I'm confused... Pages 141 and 193 both mention Vessey, the man who planned to lead South Carolinian slaves in revolt. However, it seems as though Vessey's actions are taking place at two different times. Perhaps I missed something and both times are in the past, but I'm still not sure how Kevin is present in the second time. If someone could help me, that would be great!

I don't think this is a plot hole, Brian. On page 113, we learn that when Dana came back without Kevin it was 1819 when she left him. Vesey -- the slave-turned-freeman who planned a widespread slave revolt -- was executed in 1822.
When Dana goes back (at the beginning of "The Fight"), about five years or so have passed, so it would be 1823.

So when Rufus says on page 141 that his Dad might think Dana is "another Denmark Vesey," he's referring to an event (Vesey's planned & failed revolt) that has recently occurred. Later on, when Kevin & Dana reunite and then talk about those years he spent apart from her, he says how "Around that time" Vesey was planning his revolt, Kevin, too, was accused of helping slaves escape (page 193).

So I think the chronology adds up, but I agree it is a little confusing.
